CHAPTER 03 | TERRA DOS ÎNDIOS: OS GUARDIÕES DA FLORESTA

Titled “The Guardians of the Forest” part three looks at the modern lives and identities of the forest’s original inhabitants, the indigenous tribes, and how they are resisting the advance of loggers, land grabbers and illegal miners into their lands as well as infrastructure projects that disrupt their traditional ways of life.

With severe budget cuts to Brazil’s indigenous and environmental agencies, tribesmen across the Amazon are being forced more than ever to find new ways to defend their lands – that remain the best kept forests of Brazil – whether it is through international advocacy, allying with other traditional forest peoples or forming armed vigilante groups.
